STARS Substitute

Job Function:     

To assist the teacher in providing a daily classroom program that fulfills the philosophy, goals and objectives of Early Education and Care programs.

Specific Job Duties:

  1. Assist in providing a daily classroom program.
  2. Work with classroom teacher to carry out daily lesson plans.
  3. Supervise children at all times in the classroom, on the playground and on field trips.
  4. Ensure adequate care of supplies, materials and equipment.
  5. Work with parents and treat them kindly with respect.
  6. Attend parent conferences and encourage parent involvement.
  7. Work with children in learning centers, circle time, individual play records, encourage language development and positive self-image.
  8. Provide guidance and support for each child.
  9. Work cooperatively with students, volunteers, co-workers, visitors and observers.
  10. Initiate activities with the children, incorporate constructive ideas and criticisms to aid in professional development.
  11. Assume any and all other duties as they become necessary for the successful operation of EEC’s programs.
  12. Abide by the policies and procedures set forth by the EEC’s Board of Directors.

Limits of Authority:                                   

Act under the supervision of the Center Director and assume any and all duties as delegated.

Education & Experience:            

Must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED and meet the requirements as outlined in STARS agreement. Child Care experience is a plus!

Employee must complete the DCF Early Literacy Course and enroll in and complete the 45-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training as evidenced by passage

of a competency examination within 6 months of hire date.

Employee must obtain and maintain a staff credential issued by DCF (Department of Children & Families).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to deal positively with children, parents and co-workers.

Ability to work with families and children of varying socio-economic backgrounds.

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Abilities:

Must submit TB tine screener or test (if needed) on 1st day of employment as well as a employee physical within one week of employment; re-screens will be required periodically.

Sound mental and physical health.

The work environment is representative of the needs that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Work is performed in a classroom setting.

The noise level is usually moderate to high.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, read, write, hear and lift up to 40 lbs.

Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
