Job Function: To supervise center staff and insure that the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Early Education and Care Inc.’s programs are fulfilled.
It is the expectation that all employees seek additional opportunities to contribute to the success and progress of Early Education and Care and its programs.
Specific Job Duties:
- Maintain a physical environment that conforms to agency standards of safety and cleanliness and is conducive to optimal growth and development of the children who attend the center.
- Operate the center program in conformity with agency standards for the physical safety and well-being of the children, families, and staff that use the center.
- Supervise the development and execution of an ongoing program of group activities that contribute to the care, growth, and development of the children who attend the center.
- Insure that facilities meet licensure requirements. Inform appropriate persons when building and other violations exist for correction.
- Report, in writing, to the EHS/HS Education Manager of any staff problems, excessive absenteeism, tardiness, and failure to perform job responsibilities.
- Approve/disapprove requests for center staff leave and forward leave form to central office.
- Review lesson plans, program schedules, requisition for supplies and equipment and submit recommendations as needed.
- Conduct staff meetings weekly with all center staff and review learning program, activities, resources, staff concerns, etc.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance to staff and training when needed.
- Insure parents are involved in the daily program and are made to feel welcome and useful.
- Participate in case staffing making recommendations and observations as appropriate.
- Contact Family Services for excessive absenteeism of children.
- Report all unusual incidents and accidents and document on appropriate forms.
- Report unusual behavior, learning or physical problems observable in children, and complete referral for observation/follow-up services.
- Provide daily supervision of center program insuring that:
- Agency policies for staff, parents, and children are followed.
- Equipment is maintained.
- Adequate staff coverage at all times.
- Appropriate medical care is given.
- Meals are prepared and served.
- Children are adequately supervised both indoors and outdoors.
- Discipline policy is understood and followed by all staff.
- Field trips are submitted to the EHS/HS Program Coordinator for approval.
- Assist in coordinating all center activities.
- Responsible for signing center staff’s activity sheets.
- Maintain and supervise the following records according to agency policies:
- Attendance (Staff and Children)
- Parent correspondence.
- Children’s education files
- Escort lists
- Center inventory
- Facility inspections
- Accident reports
- Medication cards
- Others as needed
- Records of children’s progress and attendance
- Records of referrals
- Maintain positive interaction between the center and the community.
- Submit monthly reports to the EHS/HS Education Manager.
- Attend required in-service meetings.
- Actively participate in the planning of agency events, such as Kidfest and other activities sponsored by EEC.
- Responsible for gathering resources that will support contractual match requirements for EEC’s funding sources.
- Abide by the policies and procedures of the EEC Board of Directors and its funding sources.
Limits of Authority:
Act under the supervision of the EHS/HS Education Manager and assume any duties and responsibilities as designated.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development or closely related field preferred. Associate’s degree in early childhood education,
child development or closely related field accepted; must be enrolled in a BA/BS program (ECE, child development or closely related field)
and complete within three years of hire date.
Employee must possess a DCF Director credential.
Employee must complete the DCF Early Literacy Course and enroll in and complete the 45-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training as evidenced
by passage of a competency examination within 6 months of hire date.
Also must have a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience in an early childhood setting plus two (2) years of teaching experience preferred.
Employee must obtain and maintain a staff credential issued by DCF (Department of Children & Families).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Basic computer literacy required.
Work Environment, Physical and Mental Abilities:
Must submit current physical exam and TB tine screener or test (if needed) on 1st day of employment; re-screens will be required periodically.

Work is performed in a classroom setting. The noise level is usually moderate to high.
