EHS FAMILY ADVOCATE-HOME VISITOR

Description:

The Early Head Start Home Visitor will provide early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support services to eligible pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and their families through a series of weekly home visits (46 per school year every 90 minutes) and scheduled Bi-monthly socializations activities. The EHS home visitor will design, plan, and carry out developmentally appropriate experiences that meet all component areas of the Head Start, the school readiness goals established by the program and the individual needs of the child. Each Home Visitor will maintain a maximum caseload of twelve families.

Specific Job Duties

    1. Assist families in completing original enrollment applications for their child or children and ensure all necessary documents for enrollment are collected and filed with the application.
    2. Partner with the family to develop self-sufficiency goals for the child and family. Develop and implement, follow up, and document the family’s Individualized Family Partnership Agreement. This includes:
    3. Family goal setting
    4. Accessing community services and resources
    5. Emergency or crisis assistance in areas such as food, housing, clothing, and transportation.
      1. Education and other appropriate interventions, including opportunities for parents to participate in counseling programs or to receive information on mental health issues that put families at risk.
    6. Opportunities for continuing education and employment training, and other employment services through formal and informal networks in the community.

    1. Establish a trusting and caring relationship with each child and his/her family.
    2. Serve as an advocate between community resources and Early Head Start families
    3. Work collaboratively with all families to identify and continually access, directly or through referrals, services and resources that are responsive to each family’s interests and goals, including services to children with disabilities and those that are culturally diverse.
    4. Model appropriate discipline techniques and positive self-esteem-building behaviors when working with the family.
    5. Collaborate with parents and families, as they become lifelong educators by observing, guiding, promoting, and participating in the everyday learning of their children at home, school,l and in their communities.
    6. Schedule and/or document appointments for medical, dental, and disability screenings, evaluations, and complete follow-ups as needed. Assisting families as needed in developing and maintaining a medical home.
    7. Secure resources and receive donations from the community; complete In-Kind forms for all donated goods, services, and volunteer hours.
    8. Attend and assist with parent committee meetings within their assigned caseload; encourage family participation.
    9. Attend workshops, trainings, conferences, and meetings as necessary to perform successfully in the job duties.
    10. Coordinate experiences and opportunities during planned weekly home visits and bi-monthly socializations with the parent that allow pregnant mothers, infants, and

    toddlers to maximize their growth and development across all domains by implementing an individualized plan based on both formal and informal assessments.

    1. Schedule, support, and follow through with developmental screening of infants and toddlers in collaboration with their families.
    2. Provide direct services to pregnant woman that are enrolled in the program, utilizing Partners for a Healthy Baby Curriculum, Creative Curriculum, Ages and Stages, and other resources as needed.
    3. Actively participate in the recruitment process for new families.
    4. Must attend required in-service meetings.
    5. Actively participate in the planning of agency events, such as Kidfest and other activities sponsored by EEC.
    6. Abide by the policies and procedures as set forth by the EEC Board of Directors and the Policy Council.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, early childhood education, or related field.

Employee must complete a DCF literacy course, enroll in, and complete the 45-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training as evidenced by passage of a competency examination within 90 days of hire date.

Experience in a social work capacity in providing services to children and families, and/or experience working with young children.
