EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Job Function:          The Executive Director of Early Education and Care, Inc. shares the Board’s passion for the mission of the organization and preserves and expands on the unique history and successes of the organization with sound fiscal management.  The Executive Director leads the organization to fulfillment of its mission by managing its day-to-day affairs, manages the professional staff and in concert with the Board of Directors, assures the agency of a secure and successful place in the community.  The Executive Director plays a critical role in and is responsible for directing fundraising, financial, administrative and operational functions as well as providing quality programming and services to meet the needs of the communities in which we serve.  The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors and communicates frequently to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.  The Executive Director implements the mission of EEC, Inc. as well as the vision of the Board of Directors, while providing overall management of the organization.

 Specific Job Duties:

  1. The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors to carry out the work of the agency, including the program substructure areas:
    • Ensures that the Board of Directors are kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the agency, and on all  important factors influencing them.  Attends all Early Education and Care’s meetings of the Board and Executive Board.
    • Plans, formulates and recommends for approval of the Board of Directors, basic policies and programs that will further the objectives of the agency.
    • Executes all decisions of the Board except when other assignments are made specifically by the Board or the Executive Board.
    • Develops for the purpose of day-to-day administration, specific policies, procedures and programs to implement the general policies established by the EEC Board of Directors.
    • Provides the necessary liaison and staff support to Board committee chairs and to committee members to enable them to properly perform their functions.  Sees that the committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board for approval.
    • Executes such contracts, grants and commitments as may be authorized by the EEC Board of Directors or by established policies.
    • Plans, organizes and directs programs and services; evaluates results and recommends policies, procedures and action to achieve program goals.

2. Provides guidance on matters of program, publications budget and legal responsibility.

3.  Responsible for the planning and administration of official meetings of Early Education and Care, Inc.

4.  Plans and executes communications to the agency’s clientele including newsletters, general mailings, news

releases, etc.

5. Operation of the Administrative Office:

  •       Establishes a sound organizational structure for the agency’s central office and administrative operations.
  •        Directs and coordinates approved programs, projects and major activities of the staff.
  •        Obtains maximum utilization of the staff by clearly defining duties, establishing performance standards   performance reviews, and recommending competitive salary structure.

6.  Management of fiscal resources and development of grants an contracts:

  •  Develops, recommends and upon approval by the Board of Directors, operates within and annual budget. Ensures that all funds, physical assets and other property of EEC are appropriately safeguarded and administered.
  •  Seeks outside funding in the form of grants and contracts from public and private sources.

7.  Responsibility for public relations activities and effective relationships with related organizations:

  •  Maintains effective relationships with other organizations, both public and private and sees that the agency is enhanced in accordance with the policies and objectives of the agency.

8.  Plans, coordinates and conducts a public relations program to enhance public acceptance of the agency.

9. Relationships:

  • The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors for the administration of Early Education and Care and for proper interpretation and fulfillment of all his/her functions, responsibilities, authority and relationships.
  •  The Executive Director maintains personal contacts with staff, the Board of Directors and the public to the greatest degree possible.

10. Carries out such other general responsibilities as may be delegated by the Board of Directors:

  • The Executive Director maintains relationships with other community organizations, government and others as are desirable or necessary in the best interest of EEC and in conformity with the overall objectives and policies of the agency.
  • The Executive Director establishes such relationships as the Board of Directors may specify or as the Executive Director may deem advisable in the best interests of the agency, in conformity with established policy.

Education and Experience:

Preferred: Master’s degree in educational administration or leadership, early childhood education, business, non-profit management, communications, or other appropriate field when associated with non-profit management experience is required. Five years of middle to senior level non-profit management experience required. Accepted: Bachelor’s degree with seven years of comparable experience may be substituted for the advanced degree. Experience in early childhood education a plus. Candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills, strong managerial skills, and a record of achievement.
