EDUCATION SPECIALIST

This position will provide quality assurance, technical assistance, mentoring and training to Early Head Start/Head Start staff in order to ensure developmentally appropriate, high quality programs.

Specific Job Duties:         

  1.   Assist in the room arrangement program classrooms.
  2.   Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of classroom curriculum.
  3.  Assist teaching staff in the development of lesson plans, ensuring there is a balance of quiet/active teacher directed, child initiated activities and individualization.
  4.  Assist in program planning.
  5. Under the direction of the EHS/HS Program Coordinator, provide training and technical assistance to program staff.
  6. Oversee the maintenance of educational and classroom records to ensure that a quality program is maintained.
  7. Ensure that indoor and outdoor care environments are safe and healthy for children.  Notify director of potential hazards so that appropriate corrective actions can be taken.
  8. Report problems verbally and in writing to EHS/HS Program Coordinator.
  9. Model acceptable developmentally appropriate practices and interactions for program staff, substitutes, and volunteers.
  10. Perform observations that will be used as part of the mentoring tool   implemented in program classrooms.
  11. Perform classroom monitoring as assigned. Provide staff training in classroom management and monitoring procedures.
  12. Assist with Substitute Training to help train parents and volunteers on developmentally appropriate classroom practices.
  13. Assist with the implementation and monitoring of developmental screenings and assessments.
  14. Possess knowledge of early childhood development and provide technical  assistance and training to enhance their development.
  15. Assist program staff in planning and implementing schedules and routines that provide for the individualized needs of all children.
  16. Obtain continued training through attendance at workshops, conferences and seminars as requested for program improvement and professional growth.
  17. Provide early childhood education training at EEC sponsored events as requested.
  18. Ensure all reports and documentation required for program compliance are accurate and on time.
  19. Must maintain a current First Aid and Infant/Child CPR.
  20. Must obtain 15 hours of training each year in developmental appropriate practices in areas of but not limited to: health and safety, mental health, nutrition, challenging behaviors, assessments, and technology.
  21. Must possess or obtain the 40 hrs. of  Department of Children and Families training requirements within timeline established by Early Education and Care.

Experience:
A BA/BS degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is required.

Applicant must pass criminal background check and urinalysis drug screening.

A pre-employment physical and tb tine screening is required.

This is a 12 month position.  Salary range is DOE.
