Job: BUS DRIVER/SUPPORT TEACHER

Job Function:   Responsible for transporting children to and from centers and obeying all traffic laws and regulations.  Ensure the safety of the children at all times and assist as necessary in the center, classroom and central office duties.

Specific Job Duties:

1. Provide daily transportation of children according to established routes.
2. Create an atmosphere of warmth, understanding and acceptance in transportation.
3. Ensure that all children are safely buckled in seats or harnesses prior to bus moving.
4. Take all precautions necessary while transporting children – including stopping at all railroad crossings, lights, signs and etc.
5. Obey all traffic laws and report any mechanical concerns to the Transportation Supervisor immediately.
6. When transporting children for field trips, etc., bus driver acts as assistant to teachers in supervising and assisting children as necessary.
7. When not driving the bus, report to assigned locations and assist as necessary in the centers, classroom and the EEC central office.
8. Perform courier duties as needed.
9. Must maintain current first aid and CPR.
10. Attend staff meetings, workshops, and conferences, parent meetings, and parent conferences as needed and obtain necessary 15 in-service training hours to meet the required yearly training.
11. Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
12. Notify the Transportation Coordinator of anticipated absence at least two weeks in advance. In case of illness, notify the Transportation Coordinator a minimum of one hour in advance so that a substitute may be arranged.
13. Maintain prudent care of equipment, materials and supplies.
14. Attend meetings, workshops and training as required.
15. Actively participate in the planning of agency events, such as Kidfest and other activities sponsored by EEC.
16. Responsible for gathering resources that will support contractual match requirements for EEC’s funding sources.
17. Abide by the policies and procedures set forth by EEC’s Board of Directors.

Limits of Authority:    Act under the supervision of the Transportation Specialist and assume any duties or responsibilities as delegated.

Education & Experience:  High school diploma, a current Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger endorsement and a Florida State Non-public Driver’s Certification are required.

Experience in transporting children and working with preschool children.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  Demonstrated ability to deal positively with children, parents and co-workers regardless of socio-economic background.

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Abilities:     Must submit current physical exam and TB tine screener or test (if needed) on 1^st day of employment; re-screens will be required periodically.
